Lou,
It is wonderful to hear from you. I have often noticed that those of us who have difficult and challenging life circumstances sometimes deal with them by digging deeper into our inner gifts. Everyone has their own unique gifts, and it is quite beautiful to see people discover their own.

My mother committed suicide too, 7 years after my father died. I wrote about it in the post, The Long Shadow of Suicide. It has been my experience that going through the middle of the most painful things in our lives does release them, although it may take some time, and then we find ourselves in the clear light beyond that pain.

My paintings are mostly about that light which is beyond the surface of our lives. Flowers are a good subject for that, but, frankly, I never really think I am painting a flower, but am instead trying to reach that inner creative light. Playing with vibrant color and dramatic lighting on the ephemeral but eternal form of a flower is how I pursue that light.

Hibiscus Path was particularly enjoyable for me as the exuberance of the flower itself invites one into that light. I am really happy that it has touched you on your journey. I hope you continue painting and exploring your own creative light!

Thank you for sharing,
Lexi

Hiya lexi,
my names louise, im 15 and im doing an art project on you, i have painted 'Hibiscus Path', in acrylic already and im really pleased with it. i just wondered what inspired you to paint such a vibrant beautiful picture? you truely have lovely spirit, even though going through so much. i havent had the best life ethier, my dad committed suicide at 8 and for 4 years i had to look after my mum when she was at her all time low, but somehow painting takes me away from all that and reading your blogs on here and looking at your wonderfull paintings inspire my imaganation. i would just like to know why you painted Hibicus path? to create an explosive shocked atmospere when you enter the room? or does it represent a specific memory in your life? im intrested to know, because everytime i look at it i just think wow!
would be good to here back,
thanks.

KL,
Glad you enjoyed it. This definitely was the "Reader's Digest Condensed Version" so to speak.

I think we all have amazing places we can still go if we are open to the possibilities. It will be fun to discover those places and share them with one another!

Lexi,

I loved this post, it was amazing to hear about your creative journey, to share in all the twists and turns... most inspiring in fact!

My own creativity has tended to focus around words - writing and talking... and reading about your story has made me understand how mine could still have some amazing places to take me.

Much joy,
KL
